Watercolours
Refers both to the medium and works of art made using the medium of watercolour.
Watercolour paint is made up of pigments bound with a water-soluble binder. The medium of watercolour has been used for centuries and extends to all areas of the world, from Europe, to the Orient and to Ancient Egypt. To create lighter tones when using watercolour, the pigment is thinned with water, so that the lightness of the paper background shows through the layer of paint more strongly, this makes watercolour different from other mediums which use water, such as Gouache, which will use white pigment to create the lighter tones.
