Artist in Residence
For the fifth year, the Fair Directors invited an artist to work within the Fair to encourage a response.
For 2015, we welcomed Alice Shirley, a London artist, who graduated from Byam Shaw School of Art, Central St. Martins in 2007 with a BA in Fine Art. She also attended a post-graduate drawing course at the Prince's Drawing School. She has since gone on to write and illustrate her own children's books, including The Gentle Lion and the Little Owlet , and taught and mentored the Young Artists Programme of the Prince’s Drawing School at the Natural History Museum and V&A Museum of Childhood. She is currently creating designs for the fashion house Hermès Paris. Shirley's disciplines include drawing, painting in watercolour, ink and acrylic, sculpture, print making and photography. "It is a rare and wonderful thing to be given the opportunity to make whatever you want. For an artist who has been working solely on commissioned commercial work for the last year, it is like a refreshing big glass of cold water on a very hot day..." - Alice Shirley At the Fair, Alice created a serious of creative and enchanting vinyl illustrations, on walls and other objects. Some of these can be seen below. |
