About John Barkes
John Barkes has been to St Petersburg about a hundred times in the last 25 years, buying paintings directly from Artists' Union members in their studios.
He is most interested in the generation born in the interwar years and the works they produced in their prime during the 1960s and 1970s.
In recent years John Barkes has developed contacts and discovered major studios in Kiev, which is proving an equally rewarding source of paintings.
